
We have discovered some really amazing new writers that we would not have been able to discover on our own.
Andrea Cabrera Luna (Anahat’s artistic director) said: “During lockdown, we set-up an online book club with friends of Anahat. We read and discuss plays written in Spanish by new Latin American playwrights. Anahat invited an international group of theatre makers to join in a weekly online book club session which provided a safe space for everyone and consistency at the time they (and we) needed it the most.“
We have read dozens of plays together, discussing the characters, the plot and biography of each playwright. We have discovered some really amazing new writers that we would not have been able to discover on our own.
This has been such an exciting opportunity for Spanish speakers and Hispanic theatre makers to come together, speak in their native language and discuss stories that are close to home.
Over the past months, we have explored how digital platforms can bring people together in unexpected ways.
